Web designer hierarchy view does not follow the canvas selection

In the Web page designer, the hierarchy view's selection does not follow the designer canvas. Selecting a control on the canvas (for example a freshly added button) and then switching to the hierarchy view shows no selection in the tree, and deselecting on the canvas leaves the tree showing a stale selection. Clicking nodes in the tree still updates the canvas, but nothing selects the tree from the canvas side, so the two views disagree about what is selected. The desktop designer's hierarchy view keeps this in sync in both directions.
